GM Korea's Dec sales drop 16 pct on weak domestic demand

All News 14:32 January 02, 2018

SEOUL, Jan. 2 (Yonhap) -- GM Korea Co., the South Korean unit of General Motors Co., said Tuesday its December sales fell 16 percent from a year earlier due to weaker domestic demand.

GM Korea sold 45,466 vehicles in December, down from 54,281 units reported a year earlier due mainly to a lack of new models, the company said in a statement.

Exports declined 6.5 percent to 33,614 units from 35,968 over the cited period. Domestic sales plunged 35 percent to 11,852 from 18,313 during the same period, it said.

The sales slump was mainly affected by weaker local demand for the midsize Malibu, flagship Impala and the large Alpheon sedans last month, the statement said.

For the whole of 2017, GM Korea saw its combined sales slump 12 percent on-year to 524,547 vehicles from 597,165, it said.
