All News 12:28 January 05, 2018

SEOUL, Jan. 5 (Yonhap) -- China's chief negotiator on North Korean nuclear issues arrived in Seoul on Friday for talks with South Korean officials, four days before Seoul and Pyongyang will hold a rare meeting.

Kong Xuanyou, assistant foreign minister, refused to answer journalists' questions as he arrived at Incheon International Airport earlier in the day.

Later Friday, Kong will meet with Lee Do-hoon, the special representative for Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs, to discuss the security situation on the Korean Peninsula.

The Chinese official will also meet with Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam on Friday before heading back home on Saturday.

His visit came shortly after South and North Korea agreed to meet in the shared border town of Panmunjom next Tuesday to discuss the North's participation in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and ways to improve ties.
