Koreas test-run military hotline: ministry

All News 10:21 January 10, 2018

SEOUL, Jan. 10 (Yonhap) -- The South and North Korean militaries conducted test communication Wednesday through a reconnected hotline, the Ministry of National Defense said.

"(We) carried out the trial communication normally for about five minutes from 8 a.m. today to check the Yellow Sea military communication line," the ministry said. "There were no unusual comments."

It added the military will continue technical work on the hotline, which was severed nearly two years ago.

The South had long tried to restore the line to help avoid accidental clashes around the Northern Limit Line (NLL), the de-facto sea border between the two sides.

The North abruptly announced Tuesday that it had put the hotline back in service, as the two sides held high-level talks on Pyongyang's plan to take part in the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games, which will open in South Korea next month.
