SEOUL, March 5 (Yonhap) -- Two new Korean releases dominated the domestic box office over the weekend, taking up slightly more than half of all tickets sold in theaters during this offseason, data showed Monday.

"The Princess and the Matchmaker" topped the box office by drawing 489,702 moviegoers from Friday to Sunday, followed by "Little Forest" with 372,394, according to the computerized tally from the Korean Film Council.

"The Princess and the Matchmaker" tells the story of Princess Song-hwa's journey to find her best match with the help of the most prominent fortune-teller of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) out of the three candidates chosen by her father based on their predestined future and compatibility. The comedy-drama stars Shim Eun-kyung and Lee Seung-gi as the princess and the matchmaker.

Based on a popular Japanese cartoon of the same title, "Little Forest" tells the story of Hyewon, a jobseeker who comes back to her rural hometown, leaving behind a highly stressful daily life in Seoul. She gradually finds her own way while spending four special seasons together with her two childhood friends there.

Marvel's latest superhero movie "Black Panther" fell to third place after staying atop the box office for two consecutive weekends. The film added 256,304 to its domestic cumulative of 5.19 million.

"What Happened to Monday" came in fourth with 187,874 views. The dystopian action thriller features Swedish actress Noomi Rapace playing seven identical sisters, each with different personality traits and attributes. It has sold 762,732 tickets since it opened on Feb. 22. Fox Searchlight's "The Shape of Water" remained in fifth place with 62,372 views.
