SEOUL, March 8 (Yonhap) -- South Korean maestro Chung Myung-whun canceled his plan to conduct an opera at an Italian theater due to injury sustained in a traffic accident, according to the theater's website on Thursday.

He was scheduled to lead the opera La Boheme on March 16-25 at the La Fenice theater in Venice.

"Chung became unable to conduct because of a traffic accident," the La Fenice theater said in a notice. "His injury was not serious but was enough to require some rest."

"He was injured when his Benz car was hit by a truck," said an aide to Chung. "Fortunately, he wasn't hurt much. He was discharged from hospital after receiving treatment for three days."

But he will stay away from work for two weeks as recommended by his doctor, the aide said.
