SEOUL, March 8 (Yonhap) -- About 800,000 jobs are expected to be lost by 2030, in such areas as retail sales, driving, shipping and cleaning, due to technological advances driven by the fourth industrial revolution, a study showed Thursday.

But the revolution is expected to create 920,000 more jobs in information and communication technology, engineering, healthcare, culture and arts, and other areas, the labor ministry study conducted jointly by state and civilian research institutes showed.

The one-year study, which was launched in March last year, forecast changes in the job situation expected to occur by 2030. The ministry presented its results during a meeting of the Presidential Committee on the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

According to the results, jobs that are expected to be in greater demand include ICT experts, engineering experts, science and technology experts, healthcare and welfare service people, education experts, as well as culture, art and sports jobs.

But technological progress is expected to lead to the shedding of such jobs as retail salespeople, driving and shipping, as well as cleaning and security personnel, it showed.
