SEOUL, March 14 (Yonhap) -- LG Uplus Corp. said Wednesday it will relay Ultra High Definition (UHD) images of the 2018 FIFA World Cup events in Russia through undersea fiber-optic cables so South Korean viewers can better enjoy the upcoming games.

The South Korean mobile carrier said it will provide the broadcast circuits for the UHD pictures to the country's three terrestrial networks, KBS, MBC and SBS, during the FIFA World Cup in June.

LG Uplus said it will connect its broadcasting center in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, to the International Broadcasting Center (IBC) in Moscow with 500Mbps undersea fiber-optic cables.

"We are allowed to provide the broadcast lines exclusively, as we've secured the undersea fiber-optic cables, as well as the experience in successfully conducting the broadcasting for the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014 and London Olympics in 2012," an LG Uplus official said.
