SEOUL, May 22 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's food industry is churning out camping and outdoor easy-to-eat products as more and more people are enjoying recreational activities with friends and family, industry sources said Tuesday.

Sources said companies like Ourhome Co. have released several new ready to eat meals, such as spicy boneless pork soup that are all in special containers that do not require the use of a bowl or plate.

These products can be stored at room temperature for months and can be consumed by microwaving or placing them in hot water.

Dongwon F&B, a major foodmaker here, said it recently introduced canned chicken goods that can be easily mixed with rice in an outdoor setting.

"The size of the canned food is set at 190 grams so as to make it just right to be eaten with a bowl of rice," a company representative said. He hinted that the canned goods has been favorably received by the market.

CJ Cheiljedang Corp., South Korea's largest food maker, said it too released a new spicy beef soup with rice that is ideally suited to be eaten at picnics. It has, moreover, come up with side dishes that can be enjoyed with alcoholic beverages.

Still, others like Shinsegae Food unveiled ready-cooked pork and chicken dishes that are in special small serving packages.

"There is currently a boom in the number of people enjoying leisure activities that is fueling demand for food that is portable, easy to preserve and consume," a market watcher said.

He predicted this trend will continue going forward as the country's statutory maximum working hours will be slashed to 52 hours a week from the current 68 hours starting in July.
