SEOUL, June 4 (Yonhap) -- The per capita operating profit at South Korea's top 30 listed conglomerates except for Samsung Electronics Co. and SK hynix Inc. hasn't changed much over the past five years, a local think tank said Monday.

The country's top 30 conglomerates, excluding the world's two leading chipmakers, reported 57.3 million won in per capita operating profit in 2017, up a marginal 1.4 percent from 56.5 million won in 2012, the Korea Economic Research Institute (KERI) said in a statement.

"Last year, the top 30 groups' overall sales and profits seemingly increased on a global economic recovery and increased trade volumes. But Samsung Electronics and SK hynix were the biggest beneficiaries," a KERI official said.

In 2017, the two chipmakers posted a combined operating profit of 48.2 trillion won, which is higher than the 41.3 trillion won worth of operating profit earned by the remaining 28 groups, the think tank under the Federation of Korean Industries said.

When Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are counted, the 30 groups' per capita operating profit jumped 49 percent to 106 million won in 2017 from 71.25 million won in 2012, the statement said.
