SEOUL, June 4 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's stock and other securities-trading markets will be closed on June 13 for the country's local election, the bourse operator said Monday.

The trading of stocks, as well as derivatives and other securities products, will not take place on the day, as the government has designated it as a temporary national holiday, according to the Korea Exchange (KRX).

In the quadrennial local elections, 17 chiefs of provinces and metropolises, 226 heads of smaller administrative units, 824 seats in provincial and metropolitan assemblies, 2,927 lower-level local councilors and 17 superintendents of education will all be up for grabs.

The market will also be closed Wednesday for Memorial Day, the KRX said.
