SEOUL, June 7 (Yonhap) -- CJ Cheiljedang Corp., South Korea's leading maker of processed foods, said Thursday it is considering acquiring a U.S. frozen food company to expand its global presence.

"We are reviewing purchasing a U.S. processed foods maker as part of efforts to boost competitiveness in our overseas foods business, but nothing has been decided in detail yet," the company said in a regulatory filing.

The announcement followed rumors that the South Korean firm is pushing to purchase Schwan's Co., based in Minnesota, the United States.
