(US-NK summit) Trump receives birthday cake ahead of N. Korea meeting
SINGAPORE, June 11 (Yonhap) -- U.S. President Donald Trump celebrated his birthday a little early Monday with hours to go before a high-stakes nuclear summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Trump was given a birthday cake at a luncheon with Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, a photo posted on Facebook by the city-state's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan showed.
The U.S. president turns 72 on Thursday.
"Celebrating birthday, a bit early," the foreign minister wrote.
Pictured with Trump were U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to his right and Chief of Staff John Kelly to his left.
Trump is to sit down with Kim on the resort island of Sentosa Tuesday to try to dismantle North Korea's nuclear weapons program in exchange for security guarantees for the regime.
