(US-NK summit) Kim commits to peninsula's complete denuclearization: report

SINGAPORE, June 12 (Yonhap) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Tuesday committed to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula in a summit agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump, a report said.

AFP reported that Kim made the commitment codified in the joint text, which is set to be released later in the day.

The summit followed weeks of grueling negotiations over sensitive issues such as the sequence and pace of the North's nuclear disarmament.

Washington has hammered away at its longstanding demand for the complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantlement of the North's nukes, while Pyongyang has favored an incremental process long criticized as a strategy to wring out more economic benefits.
