SEOUL, July 1 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean defense ministry said Sunday the two Koreas have started using the international radio traffic line for smooth communications at sea.

The ministry said the connection is to uphold the recent agreements between the two to defuse military tensions and prevent unexpected confrontations at sea.

During the 9 O'clock test communication earlier in the day, the South Korean Navy contacted a North Korean patrol boat, which responded immediately to the call, the ministry said.
