Renault Samsung's June sales fall 18 pct as demand drops

SEOUL, July 2 (Yonhap) -- Renault Samsung Motors Corp. said Monday its June sales fell 18 percent from a year earlier due to weaker demand for its vehicles.

Renault Samsung sold 21,921 vehicles last month, down from 26,815 units a year earlier, the company said in a statement.

Domestic sales dropped 21 percent on-year to 7,120 units last month from 9,000 units. Exports also declined 17 percent to 14,801 from 17,815 during the same period, the statement said.

In the January-June period, overall sales fell 7.3 percent on-year to 126,018 autos from 135,895, it said.

The company's current lineup includes the SM3 compact, the all-electric SM3 Z.E. sedan, the QM3 subcompact SUV, and the SM5, SM6 and SM7 sedans.

Renault S.A. owns an 80 percent stake in Renault Samsung.
