LG Display wins certificate to carry out own safety tests

SEOUL, July 3 (Yonhap) -- LG Display Co. said Tuesday it won a certificate from a Germany-based inspection firm to carry out its own tests for organic light-emitting diode (OLED) lighting solutions.

The South Korean display manufacturer said Germany's TUV SUD, an industrial inspection and certification firm, granted the certificate, allowing LG Display to significantly reduce time needed to win safety approvals for its OLED lighting products.

LG Display said it marked the first time for a manufacturer's testing facility to win the certificate.

The assessment on LG Display's safety testing facilities was based on 10 criteria, including internal short circuits, fault conditions and thermal stress tests, the company said.

LG Display said it is now able to provide clients with OLED lighting products more efficiently through the approval.

LG has been focusing on OLED lights as one of its new growth engines, as they are power efficient and generate less heat compared with previous solutions. As they weigh less, the products can be applied in various designs, providing more leeway for clients.
