SEOUL, July 5 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's top mobile carrier SK Telecom Co. said Thursday it has started sales of the self-defense gadget dubbed "My Hero," which connects to the police when a user pulls out its cap in an emergency.

The gadget has a simple design resembling lipstick and can be carried easily as it is only 8 centimeters tall. It is highly portable and inconspicuous compared to other self-defense products out on the market, SK Telecom said.

The product sends out a 90-decibel alarm when users pull out the cap, and automatically sends a message to the police. It also notifies up to five pre-designated numbers with the alert along with the location of the user.

It also records the situation for three minutes, which can be used as evidence in case of potential investigation, SK Telecom said.

The price tag of "My Hero" stands at 25,000 won (US$22), which is competitive in terms of similar devices, the company added.

Users can install the "SKT Smart Home" application on their smartphones, which will connect to the gadget through a Bluetooth network.
