SEOUL, July 9 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean civic organization said Monday that it has printed about 52,000 postcards featuring 13 Korean cultural heritage properties worthy of designation as national treasures for overseas distribution.

The Voluntary Agency Network of Korea (VANK), which internationally promotes the country and its history online, said that the postcards, which are bundled into 4,000 sets, are all written in English.

Korean heritage properties featured on the postcards include an astronomical chart inscribed on a dolmen, ancient tomb murals, Goryeo celadon, the Tripitaka Koreana and the March 1 Independence Movement in 1919, VANK said, adding many of them have not been well known in world history so far.

"The postcards are intended to rectify some distorted views on Korean history and culture in comparison with Chinese and Japanese history," a VANK official said.

VANK will first send the postcards to the world's leading textbook publishers and plans to print more postcards featuring other hidden Korean treasures in the future, the official said.
