SEOUL, July 10 (Yonhap) -- An international song competition is set to be launched in September by the Vienna-based Korean music agency World Culture Networks (WCN), the agency's head Song Hyo-sook said Tuesday.

"We (WCN) will, in cooperation with the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, open the first International Helmut Deutsch Lied Competition at Schlosstheater Schonbrunn in Vienna from Sept. 10-15," Song said.

Named after renowned Austrian song recital accompanist Helmut Deutsch, the contest is dedicated to the lied, a type of German song typically for solo voice with piano accompaniment, she said.

"I was surprised to know that there's been no international song competition in Vienna, the capital of the music world, and have decided to launch the competition," Song said, adding that Deutsch is aggressively supporting the project.

Singers up to age 32 can apply for the competition, and its winner will receive 10,000 euros in prize, she said.
