MIRYANG, South Korea, July 10 (Yonhap) -- Police arrested a 27-year-old man on Tuesday on a charge of attempted child abduction after the girl was found unharmed on a street hours after she went missing.

The suspect, only identified by his last name Lee, is suspected of trying to kidnap the nine-year-old girl, a third grader at Miryang Elementary School, on her way home on Monday afternoon after she got off the school bus in her town about 390 km southeast of Seoul.

She was spotted by police on Tuesday, some 18 hours after she went missing. Police said that she remained speechless and seemed unhurt but is being treated at a hospital for further examinations.

Surveillance footage showed the girl being dropped off by a truck driver on the street where she was found. Police had been tracking down the truck and the owner of the vehicle, whose actions were likely taken out of fear of getting caught as police widened the search into an open investigation.

They arrested the suspect in a public PC cafe in the neighboring city of Changnyeong at around 2 p.m. Police are interrogating him to find out his exact motive.
