SEOUL, July 11 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has approved a presidential economic cooperation committee's request to visit North Korea, the unification ministry said Wednesday.

The ministry that handles inter-Korean affairs gave the green light for the Presidential Committee on Northern Economic Cooperation to visit North Korea for two days from Friday.

The committee, which is headed by Rep. Song Young-gil of the ruling Democratic Party, recently received an invitation from Pyongyang, according to the ministry.

During the trip, Song, who will lead an 11-member delegation, plans to attend a seminar to be hosted by Russia in the northeastern border town of Rason.

The delegation is also expected to tour local industrial areas, including the North's port city of Rajin, the ministry said.
