Seoul stocks trade higher Wednesday morning

SEOUL, Aug. 1 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded higher Wednesday morning following gains from pharmaceutical companies and chemical firms.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index rose 9.92 points, or 0.43 percent, to 2,305.18 as of 11:20 a.m.

Pharmaceutical firm Celltrion jumped 5.71 percent, and Samsung BioLogics gained 3.35 percent. Hanmi Pharmaceutical added 1.18 percent.

LG Household & Health Care moved up 3.31 percent, and AmorePacific climbed 3.36 percent.

Tech giant Samsung Electronics edged up 0.43 percent, while No. 2 chipmaker SK hynix moved down 1.39 percent.

The South Korean currency was changing hands at 1,117.55 won against the U.S. dollar, up 1.15 won from the previous session's close.
