SEOUL, Aug. 2 (Yonhap) -- Seo In-young, a former member of the now-disbanded girl group Jewelry, had been active as a solo singer and a versatile entertainer playing key roles in many TV shows before a video clip showing her using foul language put a brake on her career last year.

Breaking the more-than-one-year withdrawal, the 34-year-old returned to the K-pop scene with a new single Thursday.

"There is no right answer to (the question of) when it is right to resume (TV appearances). I thought I should take whatever opportunity that comes my way in order to resume singing although it could draw criticism," Seo said in an interview with Yonhap News on Wednesday.

"I was also partly afraid ... but I don't want to run away or pretend to be innocent," she said, referring to the episode last year.

Since her debut as a member of Jewelry in 2002, she built a solid career in the K-pop scene, as well as in the TV show section with her signature image as a fashion celebrity and a naughty character.

Her TV career came to a sudden stop in January last year after a video clip circulated online, showing Seo cursing at a staff worker of a reality TV program she was filming. Since then, she has been out of the public's eye.

"It was all my fault. I did soul-searching and felt guilty. I hadn't learned my lessons then because, since my debut at the age of 18, I have been always busy," she said, determined to take any blame she deserves.

The new single whose title translates into "Close Your Eyes" is Seo's first music release since her last single "Hugged by You," released in June 2016.

For the new ballad music depicting the pain of one-sided love, Seo attempts a bold change of her image as a glamorous fashion savvy icon into a sincere vocalist.

"The best and the foremost (fashion) item, I think, is being natural. So I filled the song only with my voice and guitar sounds in a nonchalant manner," she said.

"My goal for this album is to be free of any goals. I don't expected this song to be high up on music charts. Instead, I wish this song can be one broadly liked by any listener."

Having recently signed with a new management agency, Soribada, her digital single was released Thursday.
