SEOUL, Aug. 2 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean government said Thursday it will inject 10 billion won (US$8.9 million) in the next three years to develop advanced law enforcement-related technologies that can support the country's police force.

Six projects, including one that aims to develop drones that can be carried by patrol cars and used at sites where aerial observation is needed, have been selected to receive the government funding, according to the Ministry of Science and ICT.

Also included on the list is the development of a shield that can be folded when not in use by using an ultralight material to improve its portability, the ministry said.

The government plans to select two more projects next year and inject an additional 2 billion won.
