Seoul stocks start higher on tech, construction

SEOUL, Aug. 3 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started higher Friday on gains from technology firms and construction companies.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index added 4.51 points, or 0.2 percent, to 2,274.71 in the first 15 minutes of trading.

Tech firms kicked off higher, with Samsung Electronics adding 0.33 percent and No. 2 chipmaker SK hynix adding 0.6 percent. Samsung SDI moved up 0.22 percent.

Builders were also among gainers, with Hyundai Engineering & Construction moving up 1.54 percent and GS Engineering & Construction adding 0.9 percent. Daelim Industrial advanced 1.39 percent.

Samsung BioLogics added 3.57 percent, while Celltrion remained unchanged.

The South Korean currency was trading at 1,127.90 won against the U.S. dollar, up 1.80 won from the previous session's close.
