Seoul stocks trade higher Friday morning

SEOUL, Aug. 3 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded higher late Friday morning on gains from chemical and pharmaceutical firms.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index increased 9.36 points, or 0.41 percent, to 2,279.56 as of 11:20 a.m.

LG Chem moved up 2.53 percent, and LG Household & Health Care increased 1.6 percent. AmorePacific advanced 1.85 percent.

Pharmaceutical companies also traded bullish, with Samsung BioLogics rising 2.51 percent and Hanmi Pharmaceutical adding 1.16 percent.

The South Korean currency was changing hands at 1,129.30 won against the U.S. dollar, down 3.2 won from the previous session's close.
