Seoul stocks trade higher Monday morning

SEOUL, Aug. 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded higher late Monday morning on the back of financial firms and pharmaceutical companies.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index increased 11.63 points, or 0.51 percent, to 2,299.31 as of 11:20 a.m.

KB Financial moved up 0.76 percent, and Shinhan Financial advanced 0.23 percent. Samsung Life Insurance gained 2.84 percent.

Samsung BioLogics added 1.15 percent, and Hanmi Pharmaceutical moved up 4.98 percent.

Market behemoth Samsung Electronics rose 0.66 percent, while SK hynix moved down 3.36 percent.

The South Korean currency was changing hands at 1,123.00 won against the U.S. dollar, up 4.60 won from the previous session's close.
