SEOUL, Aug. 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has opened an agriculture technology support center in Ghana to transfer advanced farming know-how to the African nation, the state-run rural development agency said Monday.

The Rural Development Administration (RDA) under the agriculture ministry opened a Korea Program on International Agriculture (KOPIA) center in Accra, the capital of Ghana, to improve rice and tomato production in the nation.

The KOPIA center was launched after the Korean agency and the Ghana government signed a memorandum of understanding in March on stepping up cooperation in the agricultural sector.

The RDA has developed and shared agricultural technologies customized to developing nations through partnerships with local research institutes, having opened KOPIA centers in 21 nations in Asia, Africa and Latin America since 2009.
