JAKARTA, Aug. 20 (Yonhap) -- Gu Bon-gil defeated Oh Sang-uk 15-14 in all-South Korean final of the men's individual sabre fencing at the 18th Asian Games on Monday, making history in the process.

In the third Asian Games meeting between two South Koreans in the men's sabre final, Gu, world No. 2, prevailed over his fifth-ranked teammate.

Gu is now the first fencer to win three consecutive Asiad gold medals in the men's individual sabre. He's also the only one with multiple gold medals in the event.

This was South Korea's second fencing gold of Monday. Jeon Hee-sook won the women's foil title minutes before the men's final.

Gu and Oh will compete in the team event on Thursday, with South Korea gunning for its second straight gold.
