SEOUL, Sept. 11 (Yonhap) -- French automaker Renault S.A. plans to sell its popular Master truck in South Korea beginning next month, its local unit said Tuesday, in the first move to break into the commercial vehicle market dominated by vehicles made by Hyundai Motor Group.

Renault Samsung Motors Corp. said the 1.3-ton face-lifted Master could offer an alternative to South Korean customers in a market held by Hyundai Motor Co. and its affiliate Kia Motors Corp., which are the flagships of the world's fifth-biggest automotive conglomerate.

The South Korea unit did not provide details on how many Master trucks it will import from Renault S.A.

Master has been the best-selling truck in the European commercial vehicle segment since 1998. The truck is equipped with a 2.3-liter twin-turbo diesel engine good for 145 ponies and 34.7 kilogram-force meters of torque.
