BTS wraps up American leg of world tour with historic performance

SEOUL, Oct. 7 (Yonhap) -- K-pop world stars BTS wrapped up the American leg of their world tour with a historic concert held at the Citi Field baseball park in New York City on Saturday (U.S. time).

About 40,000 fans packed the mega stadium in New York for the final concert of the American leg of BTS' ongoing "Love Yourself" tour. BTS was the first Korean act to have ever performed at the home field of the Now York Mets, joining the ranks of such legendary artists as Sir Paul McCartney, Beyonce and Lady Gaga.

Including the Saturday concert, BTS sold 220,000 tickets for its American concerts, which kicked off a month earlier in Los Angeles.

The septet also performed in Oakland, Fort Worth, Newark, Chicago and Canada's Hamilton for the U.S-Canada leg of the global tour.

Tickets for all 15 concerts in the U.S. and Canada sold out quickly.

Some 1,500 fans camped out near the main entrance of Citi Field for up to two days ahead of the concert to secure a better view of the performance. They staged ad-hoc street performances covering numerous BTS songs as a warm up to the Saturday evening concert.

On the date of the concert, the New York City Transit Authority assigned more metro train to the route connecting to Citi Field.

BTS opened the Citi Field Concert with their latest song "Idol." A series of their previous hit songs -- "DNA," "Fake Love" and "MIC Drop" -- rocked the stadium to wild cheering from enraptured fans.

"We couldn't believe we finally came here to Citi Field. One of our dreams has come true," BTS said during the concert, applauding their fans, Army's supports

The boy band also referred to their recent, second No. 1 victory on the Billboard 200 album chart and speech at a United Nations General Assembly meeting as dreams come true.

Wrapping up the U.S.-Canada tour, BTS will move on to London, where they will perform at the O2 Arena on Oct. 9 and 10 before further concerts in Amsterdam, Berlin and Paris.
