SEOUL, Oct. 9 (Yonhap) -- The global market revenue for foldable display panels is expected to grow 150 percent per year in the coming years, starting in 2019 when smartphone makers launch devices with flexible screens, an industry report said Tuesday.

Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), an industry tracker, said the market will start slow, reaching 3.1 million units in 2019, as Samsung Electronics Co. and Huawei launch foldable smartphones.

Volume will grow to 63 million units in 2022 as costs and prices fall and availability improves, enabling the foldable panels to expand into tablets and other gadgets. Revenue will rise at a compound annual growth rate of 151 percent to reach $8.9 billion in 2022, it said.

Samsung Display Co. and LG Display Co., both from South Korea, and China-based BOE Technology Group are majors players in the global market.
