President Moon appoints new JCS chief

SEOUL, Oct. 12 (Yonhap) -- President Moon Jae-in appointed Gen. Park Han-ki new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) on Friday.

The 58-year-old former commander of the Army Second Operations Command replaced Jeong Kyeong-doo, who was recently appointed new defense minister.

The National Assembly on Wednesday endorsed Park's appointment.

Moon also appointed Hwang In-gwon as Park's successor.
