SEOUL, Oct. 17 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co. said Wednesday it has purchased full stakes in Spain-based network analysis firm Zhilabs to bolster its competitiveness in the fifth-generation network industry.

Established in 2008, Zhilabs currently provides a solution that analyzes networks' conditions, performances and data traffic for different services. Its solution is currently provided to 50 global carriers.

Samsung did not reveal the size of the deal. The South Korean tech giant said Zhilabs will be operated independently by existing management and forge close ties with Samsung that can create new opportunities for all sides.

Samsung praised Zhilabs for its solutions equipped with artificial intelligence technology, effectively carrying out complicated tasks, including finding out root causes and automatically fixing technical errors.

"The 5G network is the platform of the fourth industrial revolution, and it will expand to new services infinitely beyond smartphones," Samsung Electronics said. "Based on the cooperation with Zhilabs, we will expand the 5G infrastructure with global mobile carriers."

Samsung said Zhilabs' solution can be utilized to meet the demand for analyzing different sliced networks for various services, such as the Internet of Things and connected cars.
