SEOUL, Nov. 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's largest international investment forum kicked off in Seoul on Tuesday to highlight the business environment and create new opportunities for companies, Seoul's trade ministry said.

Invest Korea Week 2018, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency, opened in southern Seoul for a three-day run.

About 2,500 participants, including foreign investors, industry and government officials and representatives from related organizations, are taking part in this year's event.

A total of 236 investors from 211 foreign companies will visit the nation, and 766 business consultations between foreign investors and Korean companies will take place during the period, the ministry said.

For this year's event, the trade ministry and related government organizations will introduce investment opportunities related to the fourth industrial revolution and potential projects involving North Korea.

Industry leaders, including Samsung Electronics Co. and Hyundai Motor Co., will share the latest technology trends in artificial intelligence and next-generation cars.

"South Korea is emerging as an attractive investment destination with improved inter-Korean relations, a test bed market for new technologies and innovations and vast free trade agreement networks," Kim Chang-gyu, deputy minister of international trade and legal affairs, said in an opening speech.

South Korea received US$19.20 billion worth of foreign direct investment commitments from January to September, which represents a 41.4 percent rise from a year earlier, according to government data.
