SEOUL, Nov. 7 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong met Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in Seoul on Wednesday, the company said, discussing potential business ties in artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging industries.

The South Korean tech giant said Lee held a meeting with Nadella earlier in the day. The two business leaders mainly discussed strategies related to AI, along with ways to bolster ties between Samsung and Microsoft, industry sources said.

They discussed potential cooperation on cloud computing, data centers, the fifth-generation network and software industries as well, the sources added. Nadella, who took office in 2014, has been focusing on AI and cloud computing.

As cloud computing services call for high-end solid-state drives (SSDs), industry watchers said Samsung Electronics is likely to expand shipments of its products to Microsoft's cloud servers.

Others presumed that Samsung Electronics' future smart devices will come with Microsoft's cloud services.

Lee has met Nadella several times since 2014.

It marked the first time for Lee to hold a meeting with a global business leader in South Korea since being released from prison in February.

The de facto decision-maker at Samsung, the country's top conglomerate, served around a year in prison for his alleged ties with a political scandal that led to the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye.
