SEOUL, Nov. 8 (Yonhap) -- South Korean midfielder Jung Woo-young has been dropped from the national football team roster for upcoming friendly matches due to an injury, the national football governing body said Thursday.

The Korea Football Association (KFA) said Jung will not represent South Korea in friendly matches against Australia and Uzbekistan following an ankle injury.

Jung, who has two goals in 37 caps, has been one of the core central midfielders for South Korea since Paulo Bento took the helm in August. The 28-year-old, who is with Qatari side Al Sadd, has featured in the last four friendly matches under Bento.

The KFA said Asan Mugunghwa midfielder Ju Se-jong will replace Jung. Ju, 28, was called up to Bento's national team in September but didn't play a single minute. He wasn't selected for South Korea's friendly matches against Uruguay and Panama last month.

Ju was a member of the South Korean team at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He has one goal in 13 international matches.

Bento called up 26 players for this month's friendly matches away from home. The Taeguk Warriors will face Australia on Nov. 17 and face Uzbekistan three days later. Both matches will be held in Brisbane, Australia.
