SEOUL, Dec. 5 (Yonhap) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has expressed deep condolences for the death of a late senior official known for his longtime involvement in military affairs, the North's state media reported Wednesday.

"Supreme leader Kim Jong-un sent a wreath to the bier of Kim Chol-man, a member of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea ... expressing deep condolences over his death," the Korean Central News Agency said in English.

Kim Chol-man, known for his involvement in the North's military supplies sector since the era of national founder Kim Il-sung, died of an illness at the age of 98 on Monday. He also served as deputy to the Supreme People's Assembly, the North's legislative body.

Kim Jong-un led a committee to prepare a state funeral for him. It consisted of about 70 officials, including Choe Ryong-hae, vice chairman of the ruling Workers' Party.

In a separate article, the KCNA reported that party, government, military people and diplomats and officials of international organizations operating in the North visited the funeral parlor and mourned his death.
