SEOUL, Dec. 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's vice defense minister will travel to Vietnam and Indonesia next week for bilateral talks aimed at deepening defense cooperation, his ministry said Friday.

On Monday, Suh Choo-suk will hold a regular strategic defense dialogue with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Chi Vinh in Ho Chi Minh City to explore ways to further enhance cooperation in the defense sector.

The two sides have held a session of the dialogue annually since 2012.

On Wednesday, Suh will hold talks with his Indonesian counterpart Hadiyan Sumintaatmadja in Jakarta to discuss security on the peninsula and in East Asia, as well as arms industry cooperation.

Suh also plans to meet Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto.

His trip to the two countries is part of Seoul's "New Southern Policy" designed to cement ties largely with the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which is a crucial partner for South Korea due to its growth potential, rich resources and growing diplomatic influence.
