SEOUL, Dec. 12 (Yonhap) -- The unification ministry said Wednesday that there have been indications that the second wife of North Korean founder Kim Il-sung has died.

The ministry's spokesman, Baik Tae-hyun, made the remark in response to a question about a media report that Kim Song-ae has died. The report said when and how she died were not immediately known.

"There have been related signs," Baik Tae-hyun, a ministry spokesperson, told reporters during a regular briefing. "We will share more information when it is confirmed in detail."

Born in 1924, Kim married the North Korean founder, and grandfather of the regime's current leader, Kim Jong-un, after his first wife and mother of Kim Jong-il, died in 1949.

Kim Song-ae is mother of Kim Pyong-il, the North's top envoy to the Czech Republic.
