Disease center urges S. Koreans to consume less salt, eat breakfast
SEOUL, Dec. 30 (Yonhap) -- State-run Korea Centers for Disease Control & Prevention said Sunday that South Koreans must improve their dining habits by consuming less salt and eating regularly.
Based on its survey conducted on 15,954 people aged 19 and above, the center said South Koreans earned a grade of 63.3 out of 100 in terms of their eating habits.
In the research carried out from 2013 to 2015, women scored 64.8, while men got 61.7.
Among the age groups, South Koreans in their 20s got the lowest grade at 57.5. Those in their 30s also fell behind the average at 61.1.
The data showed males in their 20s had the lowest mark in terms of eating habits at 56.7.
South Koreans in their 20s and 30s tended to skip breakfast and consume little grains and fruits, leading to their low scores, the center said.
The center gives a higher grade for meals, including more fruits, vegetables, white meat and brown rice, while discouraging salty foods, alcoholic beverages and soda.
