'Ralph 2' beats 'Aquaman' at weekend box office

SEOUL, Jan. 7 (Yonhap) -- "Ralph Breaks the Internet" won the box office in its opening weekend, ending the two-week box-office streak that "Aquaman" has held in the country.

Disney's animated sequel attracted 627,936 moviegoers from Friday to Sunday, according to data released by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) on Monday.

"Aquaman" fell to No. 2 by adding 481,949 to its 19-day cumulative of 4.5 million.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" climbed to third place, selling 481,949 tickets in its 10th weekend for a domestic total of 9.6 million.

Last week's new release "Take Point" fell to fourth place with 147,989 views. The Korean action film tells the story of an elite mercenary force on a covert CIA operation to apprehend a high-profile North Korean official at an underground bunker about 30 meters beneath the surface in the Demilitarized Zone that separates the Koreas. The movie stars Ha Jung-woo and Lee Sun-kyun.

"Bumblebee" slipped two spots to No. 5 with 129,439 views in its second weekend in South Korea.
