LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7 (Yonhap) -- The chief technology officer (CTO) of LG Electronics Inc. said on Monday that his company will speed up innovation in the artificial intelligence (AI) technology sector so as to change everyday lives for the better.

LG Electronics CTO Park Il-pyung outlined a vision where advances in AI technology can make the company into a "lifestyle innovator" for people.

"It's about a whole new approach to making your life better with technology," Park said in a pre-show keynote speech for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which runs from Jan. 8-11 in Las Vegas.

Park said the ultimate goal of the cutting-edge technology is to "free ourselves of the burden of choice" in the era of information.

"Cognitive labor has shot through the roof," Park said. "AI should go from recognizing your command to really understanding your needs and purpose -- understanding your intention and recommending the best way of achieving it."

AI can not only drive autonomous cars but also enhance the way time is spent in these next-generation vehicles, Park said, highlighting growth potential in the auto parts business.

"What are we going to do sitting in a self-driving car? What are we going to do with all the time saved by not driving?" he asked.

During the world's largest electronics trade show, LG showed off AI TV controlled by Amazon's voice assistant Alexa for the first time, expanding its partnership with U.S. Internet search giant Google.

The company also introduced consumer electronic goods that offer customized services and connected devices with the support of its AI platform ThinQ.
