ICT biz sentiment worsens for Jan. on worries about weak demand

All Headlines 08:47 January 10, 2019

SEOUL, Jan. 10 (Yonhap) -- South Korean ICT companies' business outlook worsened for January from December amid concerns over the possibility of weaker domestic demand, a poll showed Thursday.

The Ministry of Science and ICT said the business survey index of the nation's ICT industry came to 94 for this month, compared with 99 for December.

January's ICT business outlook index marks the lowest level since 90 recorded in April 2017.

A reading below 100 means pessimists outnumber optimists, while a figure above the benchmark means the opposite.

The worsened business sentiment was attributed mainly to worries about a possible contraction in domestic demand, with nearly 65 percent of the respondents citing it as the main reason for their downbeat outlook.

An industry source said more efforts should be made to boost domestic demand in order to bolster the ICT sector's business conditions.
