SEJONG, Jan. 14 (Yonhap) -- The government said Monday that it will increase the supply of agricultural and livestock products ahead of next month's Lunar New Year holiday.

Daily supplies of apples, radishes, pears, cabbages, chestnuts, jujubes, eggs and three livestock products are set to go up to 7,376 tons, compared with 5,412 tons in normal times, between Jan. 21 and Feb. 1, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said.

The National Agricultural Cooperative Federation and other relevant bodies will provide a total of 81,136 tons of the agricultural products, beef, pork and chicken during the cited period.

The ministry said pork accounted for 39.3 percent, or 31,900 tons, and beef 13.5 percent, or 11,000 tons, of the total.

The move is meant to provide a stable supply of agricultural and livestock products during Lunar New Year's holiday, which falls on Feb. 5.

Lunar New Year's Day is one of the country's biggest traditional holidays, along with Chuseok, the South Korean equivalent of Thanksgiving Day.
