SEOUL, Jan. 21 (Yonhap) -- Prominent artists from South Korea's leading music label, SM Entertainment, held joint concerts in Santiago, Chile, over the weekend, drawing enthusiastic cheers from K-pop fans, the agency said Monday.

The concerts, "SMTOWN SPECIAL STAGE in Santiago," were held at Estadio Nacional, the biggest performance venue in the country, on Friday and Saturday (Chilean time). They brought together such famous SM artists as BoA, Super Junior, EXO, Red Velvet, NCT 127 and NCT Dream, as well as Yuri and Hyoyeon from Girls' Generation. The lineup also included SHINee's Key and Taemin as well as f(x)'s Amber.

They were the first SMTOWN concerts that have ever been held in South America. Since 2008, top SM artists have jointly toured global cities, like New York, Paris, Tokyo, Beijing, Bangkok, Singapore, Dubai and many others in the format of the joint SM concert "SMTOWN Live."

Hyoyeon opened the Chile concerts with a DJ set, followed by performances by BoA, Super Junior, EXO and Red Velvet of their hit numbers such as "Woman," "One More Time," "Love Shot" and "Really Bad Boy," respectively.

Super Junior received loud applause from the crowd by giving a surprise performance of "Ahora Te Puedes Marchar," by popular South American singer Luis Miguel.

Lee Teuk, leader of Super Junior, was not able to perform for the first concert due to enteritis but took part in the second one.

The concerts drew 150 journalists from the country's major news media, including state-run broadcaster TVN.
