Trade minister to visit U.S. on Section 232 tariffs

SEOUL, Jan. 28 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's trade ministry said Monday its minister will visit the United States this week to meet governmental officials and discuss issues centered on automobile tariffs.

The Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Energy said Trade Minister Kim Hyun-chong will leave for Washington on Tuesday and return home on Feb. 6.

Kim plans to meet key officials from the U.S. government to deliver South Korea's concerns and stances on Washington's move to possibly impose tariffs on automobiles based on Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act.

The minister also plans to meet officials from Congress and build his network with U.S. politicians.

Kim, moreover, plans to secure H-1B visas for skilled South Koreans working in the United States that are issued to experts in various areas that the North American country needs.
