Renault Samsung's Jan. sales plunge 37 pct on weak exports

SEOUL, Feb. 1 (Yonhap) -- Renault Samsung Motors Corp. said Friday its sales plunged 37 percent last month from a year earlier on weaker demand for its vehicles.

Renault Samsung sold 13,693 vehicles in January, down from 21,847 units the previous year, the company said in a statement.

Domestic sales fell 19 percent to 5,174 units last month from 6,402 units a year ago. Exports also declined 45 percent to 8,519 autos from 15,445 during the same period, the statement said.

The company's current lineup includes the SM3 compact, the all-electric SM3 Z.E. sedan, the QM3 small SUV, and the SM5, SM6 and SM7 sedans.

France's Renault S.A. has an 80 percent stake in Renault Samsung.
