S. Korea's total building floor area up 3.1 pct in 2018

SEOUL, Feb. 7 (Yonhap) -- A combined floor area of buildings in South Korea moved up 3.1 percent in 2018 from a year earlier, government data showed Thursday.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the total area came to 3.75 billion square meters, up from 3.64 million square meters tallied at the end of 2017.

The total floor area of buildings located in Seoul and the surrounding area jumped by 2.9 percent on-year, with the rest of the country logging an on-year increase of 3.2 percent, the data showed.

The 555-meter-high Lotte World Tower, located in southeastern Seoul, was the tallest building in the country, the findings showed.

South Korea had a total of 107 buildings with more than 50 stories last year, the ministry said.
