SEOUL, Feb. 12 (Yonhap) -- LG Uplus Corp. introduced a new Internet Protocol television (IPTV) service Tuesday to target a growing number of elderly who want to stay active and healthy.

LG Uplus, the nation's fourth-largest pay TV provider with 3.64 million subscribers, launched U+tv Bravo Life, which offers a wide range of content for viewers aged between 55 and 65.

LG Uplus features 14,000 videos on demand and 150 free content covering health, travel, leisure and retirement plans, with easy to use function controls.

Bravo Life will also offer differentiated health content co-developed by Seoul National University Hospital, as well as a YouTube streaming service and virtual reality content, the firm said.

"We are showcasing the IPTV service for active seniors, who are willing to learn, enjoy and participate even after their retirement to prepare for their second life," Lee Keon-yong, the firm's director of home media division, said in a press briefing. "We will develop various services needed for customers of different ages."

The age-specific IPTV service follows its successful launch of its kids service in 2016, which contributed to new subscribers in their 20s and 30s with children.

To better target the young generation, LG Uplus in November teamed up with global streaming video giant Netflix to offer its content on its set-top box, the first among the nation's telecommunications companies.

The nation's smallest mobile carrier has aggressively expanded its media business to expand its presence in the TV market amid the rise of global online streamlining services, such as Netflix and YouTube.

The company is set to hold a board meeting later this week to confirm its acquisition of a 54 percent stake in CJ Hello, the nation's No. 1 cable TV operator, which is expected to raise competitiveness of its media business.
